Hurd Introduces Remarkable Mid-priced, High-Efficiency H3™ Window
New Technology Combines the Best Features of Wood, Vinyl, Aluminum Clad
Medford, WI – January 20, 2009 – At the 2009 International Builders’ Show Hurd unveiled its new H3TM window -- which has all the features and performance of a premium window at a modest price. Through its exclusive Fusion TechnologyTM, the new H3 seamlessly integrates extruded aluminum cladding, a vinyl base frame and a solid wood interior into a single window.
According to company officials, the H3 is a remarkable window with greater energy efficiency, upscale aesthetics, superior durability, leak resistance, and easier installation at a price point that is particularly timely for today’s economy. “We’ve been in this business for 90 years, so we understand the value of innovation and timing,” said Vice President of Marketing Joe Herman. “And, while the H3 was three years in the making, we think the timing is perfect. We believe builders are going to respond very favorably to this high-end, high-tech, high-performance window that isn’t high priced. In fact, with its high-end features and engineering, we believe the H3 is the only mid-priced casement window on the market that will not require builders to compromise on quality, aesthetics or performance.”
Energy Efficiency:
Beyond its modest price point, the H3 window’s energy efficiency is equally remarkable. With an Energy Star® rating of .31 U-Factor, the new window features higher insulation value and a superior resistance to heat flow – both in and out. The H3 comes standard with Hurd’s ComfortGlazeTM Low-E, double strength glass, and its performance exceeds the toughest Energy Star requirements coming this year. That, coupled with the window’s extra-thick extruded cladding, extra thick vinyl base frame, fully-sealed corners, solid wood interior and high-end weather stripping, contributes to the H3’s overall superior energy performance.
Fusion Technology:
Hurd’s Fusion Technology is the patent-pending three-component construction process that sets the H3 window apart from the competition. The result is a window that successfully integrates:
Solid ponderosa pine interior. Unlike other mid-priced windows that feature veneers, the natural wood interior of the H3 ensures the warmth and beauty of real wood. It’s thermally-insulated and available either primed or natural.
Thicker, stronger 0.050” extruded aluminum cladding. At least twice the thickness of competitive roll-form cladding, the H3 provides greater durability and dent resistance.
Extra-strong 0.072” vinyl base frame. The product features superior rigidity, tight corners, total protection against rot and enhanced resistance to air or water leaks.
Aesthetics:
“The H3 is a beautiful window,” said Herman. “In fact, almost everyone we talk to says it’s hard to believe it’s a mid-priced window.” He attributes this to Hurd’s signature craftsmanship and the high quality of materials used. On the interior, premium pine and the same premium hardware and grilles as used in Hurd’s premium lines are featured in the H3 line. On the exterior, three popular clad finishes in white, sand and bronze are available.
Easy Installation:
The H3 is designed for easy installation and finishing. A rigid nailing fin produces greater structural integrity, an improved barrier against water and the virtual elimination for racking problems. A seamless factory mull system stops water with integral continuous head and sill. Additionally, Hurd’s innovative snap-lock design eliminates unsightly screws or fasteners on the interior. In fact, with the exception of the minimal nail holes on the screen tract, there are literally no nail holes to fill.
The H3 is available in more than 100 popular sizes and configurations. For a catalog or more information, builders should contact their distributors, visit www.hurd.com or call 1-800-223-4873.
Hurd also offers three complete lines of wood windows and patio doors; each handcrafted to builders’ size, shape and finish specifications. Builders can select from nine different species of wood, up to 11 different hardware finishes and a virtual unlimited number of colors of aluminum cladding. Free anodizing is also available.
