Hurd Earns Humanitarian Award from World Vision
Company recognized for donating truckloads of product to those in need
Medford, WI – March XX, 2011 – World Vision bestowed its Humanitarian Award upon Hurd Windows and Doors at the annual American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) conference in San Diego on February 22, 2011. The award was in recognition of Hurd’s donation of $800,000 worth of energy-efficient windows, doors, and screens to World Vision’s Gifts-In-Kind (GIK) program to help needy families stay warm, while dramatically cutting their energy bills.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Each year they present awards to fenestration companies that have provided significantly to those in need.
“We are truly humbled by this award,” said Hurd President and CEO Dominic Truniger. “World Vision does so much to help people in need. We were happy to join forces with them in this initiative. Hurd has a long history of being a good corporate citizen. Whether it’s helping neighbors in our own backyard or people on the other side of the globe, we are committed to being socially and environmentally responsible.”
Last year, Hurd donated six semi-trucks worth of its products to the GIK program. The total retail value of the product was more than $775,000, with the additional labor and transportation costs in excess of $800,000. The Hurd windows, screens, and doors helped GIK upgrade the homes of a multitude of people in need.
Hurd Distributor Services Manager Mike Czerniak praised the partnership with World Vision because of its adaptability in working with both the donors and recipients. “World Vision accepts window and door donations of any shape and size because they adapt the products to existing homes in desperate need of repair,” he said. “Some charities require specifically-defined window and door configurations to fit the design parameters of a house being built for a needy family, and they cannot adapt to the variety of window and door sizes available. Because World Visions volunteers modify walls to fit available windows and doors, World Visions is a wonderful partner for our available products.”
World Vision Corporate Relations Director Mary Garcia said, "Hurd Windows & Doors has been an enthusiastic participant in World Vision’s mission to serve those affected by poverty. We are thrilled that our mission is the ideal intersection with Hurd’s philanthropic interests. Last year, we received a significant donation from Hurd, which made a huge difference to those in the Chicago and Philippi, West Virginia areas. Their commitment to consistent donations of these essential building materials enables World Vision to continue to help American families and children in need by rebuilding or refurbishing homes in the areas we work throughout the U.S.”
Czerniak cited a recent donation of Hurd wood patio doors to St. George, Utah. “World Vision arranged for an affiliate to obtain these doors which were used in a Native American Reservation home restoration.”
